Sanjay Manjrekar suggested Rajat Patidar and Kuldeep Yadav as replacements for KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja in the upcoming India vs. England 2nd Test in Vizag.
In preparation for the second Test against England in Vizag, ex-Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has endorsed Rajat Patidar and Kuldeep Yadav as substitutes for KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja in his preferred playing XI.
Stressing the importance of adhering to the original squad hierarchy, Manjrekar favored Patidar over Sarfaraz Khan, citing his initial squad inclusion. He emphasized Kuldeep Yadav’s suitability for the spin department, highlighting the advantages of his left-arm wrist-spin style.
“Rajat Patidar because he’s the one you got to go back to how the hierarchy was when the squad was chosen. So, Rajat Patidar comes in for KL Rahul,” Majrekar said to ESPNCricinfo.
“Kuldeep Yadav walks in straightaway for Jadeja. Go for a pure spinner. I mean, Jadeja is a pure left-arm spinner. He’s gonna be completely different from what England faced in the first Test match. So, it won’t be that easy to play the reverse sweep and the switch reverse sweep or the normal sweep against [him],” he added.
Patidar boasts an impressive record, accumulating 4000 runs in 55 first-class matches at an average of 45.97, featuring 12 centuries and 22 half-centuries. Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav has proven his bowling prowess with 34 wickets in eight Tests, including three five-wicket hauls and two four-wicket performances.
Manjrekar further expressed concern over India’s inexperienced batting lineup, missing KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja in the second Test against England. Highlighting the absence of Virat Kohli and the team’s 0-1 series deficit, Manjrekar also acknowledged the need for a fresh start and emphasized captain Rohit Sharma’s role in extracting the best performance from the batting unit.
