Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid reportedly indicated a possible debut for Sanju Samson in India’s T20WC Super 8 match against Bangladesh, as they closely observed his practice.
India is set to secure their spot in the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals as they prepare to face Bangladesh in their second Super Eight match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. The team is riding an unbeaten streak, having won three group matches and convincingly defeating Afghanistan in their first Super Eight match.
Meanwhile, India is reportedly contemplating a change in their lineup, with Shivam Dube likely to be replaced by Sanju Samson. Dube’s form has been under scrutiny, having scored just 44 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 83, despite being selected for his ability to hit sixes. He has also managed only two maximums in 53 balls.
Following a day of extensive travel between matches, the Indian team management organized an optional training session on Friday. While most regular players were expected to sit out, captain Rohit Sharma, along with Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Sanju Samson, and reserve bowler Khaleel Ahmed, attended the session. Coaches Rahul Dravid and Vikram Rathour were also present.
According to reports from RevSportz, the players engaged in a nearly two-hour practice session where Samson, yet to feature in the World Cup XI, batted alongside Rohit. Dravid and Rohit closely monitored Samson’s performance, indicating a possible opportunity for him in the upcoming match against Bangladesh on Saturday.

If Samson comes in, it would mean India loses a left-handed batter and one all-rounder, although Dube has bowled only one match in the tournament so far. RevSports suggested that the team management is considering this change, viewing the Bangladesh match as an ideal opportunity to set their playing XI without uncertainty.
