Pakistan cricket pacer Shaheen Afridi was accused of misbehavior by the coaching staff during the Ireland T20I series and T20 World Cup 2024.
After the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) removed Wahab Riaz, Mansoor Rana and Abdul Razzaq from their respective team management positions, sources allege that pacer Shaheen Afridi displayed inappropriate behaviour towards coaches and team management during these tours.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has received a report from their coaching staff, including head coach Gary Kirsten and bowling coach Azhar Mahmood, accusing fast bowler Shaheen Afridi of poor behaviour.
According to Pakistani news outlet Samaa News, the allegations span from the T20I series against Ireland all the way through the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024. The report detailed instances of bad behaviour and claims of Afridi lobbying within the team. Notably, the report also states that no disciplinary action was taken against Afridi despite the ongoing issues. The PCB, therefore, is now investigating why no action was taken against him and why managers failed to maintain discipline within the team.

Additionally, reports suggest the board is looking into the formation of player groups within the national team, which can negatively impact team unity.
For the unaware, the Pakistan cricket team, tipped as favorites alongside India to dominate the group stages of the T20 World Cup, fell far short of expectations. Babar Azam’s men crashed out of the tournament after suffering defeats to both the USA in their opening match and arch-rivals India.
The team will, however, face a two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home in August. Shaheen Afridi’s participation and any potential disciplinary action from the PCB regarding the misbehaviour accusations remain to be seen.
