Shakib Al Hasan, frustrated by Mohammad Rizwan stepping away during his run-up, angrily threw the ball towards him, leading to a stern reprimand from umpire Richard Kettleborough.
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s temper flared during the final day of the first Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan, leading to a heated moment on the field. As Bangladesh moved closer to a historic win, Pakistan’s batters struggled against Bangladesh’s spin bowlers. Pakistan was nine runs behind at lunch after giving up a 117-run lead.
The situation escalated when Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan backed out early from his batting stance, prompting Shakib to throw the ball angrily in his direction. The delivery was collected by wicketkeeper Litton Das, but the on-field umpire, Richard Kettleborough, took issue with Shakib’s conduct. Shakib was reprimanded and briefly argued with Kettleborough before making a gesture of apology.
Bangladesh’s captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, also spoke with the umpire as Shakib returned to his run-up. Rizwan managed to score a single off the next ball, which visibly frustrated Shakib again as he reacted with a loud groan.

Shakib Al Hasan has faced a tough week both on and off the field. He has been named in a legal case related to a recent murder during protests in Bangladesh, which resulted in many deaths. Additionally, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has received a legal notice urging them to suspend Shakib, as ICC regulations prohibit players with such charges from participating in international cricket. The BCB is expected to make a decision about Shakib’s future after the first Test concludes.
Notably, the all-rounder has a history of clashes with umpires. In a 2021 Dhaka Premier League match, Shakib kicked the stumps and argued with the umpire after an LBW decision was turned down. This incident followed another where Shakib uprooted stumps and threw them during an argument with the umpire.
In a 2022 T20 World Cup match, Shakib was dismissed LBW and, despite unsuccessful DRS, refused to leave the field promptly. Additionally, he has been seen throwing his cap in frustration during fielding.
