Shane Bond praised Riyan Parag for his outstanding IPL 2024 season, where he scored 531 runs in 12 innings, and commended Parag’s ability to adapt to the No. 4 position.
Despite Rajasthan Royals’ fourth consecutive loss, Riyan Parag’s mature and composed innings of 48 runs off 34 balls was a bright spot, reviving the team’s batting effort to a total of 144/9 against Punjab Kings in IPL 2024 Match 65.
In a significant milestone, Parag surpassed 500 runs in a single IPL season for the first time, becoming the leading run-scorer for RR. Shane Bond, RR’s assistant coach and fast-bowling mentor, praised Parag’s resilience and adaptation to the No. 4 position this season, despite criticism in previous years. Bond highlighted Parag’s quality and expressed excitement and pride in his performance, acknowledging the team’s support for him.
“He’s rolled on this season for us and just lets a quality, he’s a quality player there’s no dount about him. I’m really excited for him and proud of him the way he has played so far. I think the team is super excited for him. He’s borne the brunt of some criticism over the last few years in terms of performances and so to put that to the side and come out the way he’s played this season at the number four spot, real credit to him for the work he’s put in,” Bond said at the post-match conference.

Bond also commended Riyan’s remarkable journey this season, emphasizing his growth from a young recruit to an important figure in RR’s lineup. Transitioning from a challenging lower middle-order spot to a flourishing No. 4 position, Riyan’s adaptability and composure under pressure have shone through. Noteworthy is his stellar performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023, where he amassed an impressive 510 runs in just 10 innings.
“Riyan has had an amazing season, hasn’t he! His promotion to No. 4 has really suited him. He’s had a number of years batting in a position that was pretty tough down the order and people forget how young he is. It just takes some time when you’re young. Obviously saw, how well he played in domestic cricket and this season particularly in T20s,” Bond added.
