Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar expressed his disappointment on social media over Pakistan’s unexpected loss to the USA in the T20 World Cup 2024, stating that Pakistan never deserved to win.

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar expressed his disappointment over Pakistan’s humiliating defeat to co-hosts USA in the T20 World Cup 2024 Group A match at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on June 6.

The game ended in a dramatic Super Over after the USA matched Pakistan’s score of 159 in 20 overs. In the Super Over, the USA set a target of 19 runs, scoring 18/1. Mohammad Amir’s poor performance, including seven wides, proved costly for Pakistan. In response, Pakistan managed only 13/1 in their over, falling short of the target. Saurabh Netravalkar’s impressive bowling sealed a historic win for the USA.

Shoaib Akhtar shared his thoughts on Pakistan’s shocking loss on his X handle (formerly Twitter). He remarked that Pakistan deserved to lose as the USA played exceptionally well. Despite the defeat, Akhtar praised the efforts of bowlers Mohammad Amir and Shaheen Afridi.

“Disappointing loss for Pakistan. We are not off to a good start, losing to USA. We repeated history, like we did against Bangladesh in the 1999 World Cup. Unfortunately, Pakistan never deserved to win. The reason is that USA played very well and theywere in a commanding position.” Akhtar said.

Akhtar also noted that although Amir and Shaheen tried to save the match, Pakistan couldn’t overcome the USA’s strong performance.

On the match front, Pakistan’s bowlers, including Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan, and Naseem Khan, struggled, conceding over 20 runs each. USA’s skipper Monank Patel led with a solid 50 off 38 balls. Andries Gous and Aaron Jones contributed 35 and 36*, respectively, in their 159-run chase. Nitish Kumar’s crucial 10 runs in the final over leveled the score, pushing the match into a Super Over.

In the Super Over, USA set a target of 19, which Pakistan couldn’t surpass, securing a win for the co-hosts.
