Shreyas Iyer has expressed frustration over receiving unsolicited advice about his batting, particularly regarding his struggles against short-pitched deliveries. While Iyer acknowledged that people are entitled to their opinions, he prefers such discussions to remain among themselves rather than being directed at the player.
“It’s irritating, especially when it comes from people, who haven’t faced 150 km per hour delivery, advising you to play in a particular way. But I would say it is their opinion. They have all the right to talk, but they can talk between themselves not to the player directly,” Iyer told The Indian Express.
Notably, Shreyas Iyer had an exceptional 2023 ODI World Cup, scoring 530 runs in 11 innings at an average of 66.25, including two centuries. Despite his performance, his decision to skip a domestic game for Mumbai reportedly upset the BCCI, leading to his omission from the annual contract list.
To enhance his power-hitting, Iyer has been studying baseball techniques, focusing on shoulder and hip movements for better shot execution.
“Yes, I have seen a lot of videos on YouTube on how you basically get the shoulder and hip separation. That has helped me a lot in terms of power hitting. It plays a vital role, especially in T20s where you switch your gears and try to accelerate at any given point,” he said.
Meanwhile, in the IPL mega auction last year, Iyer was signed by Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore, becoming the second-most expensive player in IPL history.
