Shreyas Iyer was moved out of ICU in Sydney and continued to recover after suffering a life-threatening spleen injury during the third ODI against Australia.
India vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, who sustained a severe spleen and rib cage injury, is now out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a Sydney hospital and showing steady signs of recovery. The injury occurred during the third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground when Iyer hurt himself while taking a catch.
Initially, the Indian camp did not realise the seriousness of the injury. However, moments later, Iyer reportedly fainted in the dressing room, and his vital signs dropped. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where scans revealed internal bleeding caused by a ruptured spleen.

Suryakumar Shares Positive Update
India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav revealed that Iyer has been responding to messages and is recovering well. In a light-hearted comment, he called Iyer a “rare talent” who went through a rare incident.
“Doctors aur physios ne bataaya ki unfortunate tha jo bhi hua toh aisa kabhi hota nahi hai, bahut rare hota hai. Shreyas bhi toh rare hai, toh rare talent ke saath he rare hota hai kabhi kabhi. But theek hai, bhagwan ne saath diya abhi. He is recovering really well. Doctors saath de rahe hain, BCCI is in full support toh jaldi recover ho jayega aur phir saath hi leke jayenge phir usko ghar,” Suryakumar said.
It is understood that BCCI’s head of medical services, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, praised the on-field medical staff for their quick and effective response, which prevented a potentially fatal outcome.
Meanwhile, sources have confirmed that Iyer’s family members are expected to travel to Sydney soon to be with him as he continues his recovery.
