Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer, who was in the ICU, has been discharged from the unit with medical team reporting that he is responding well to the treatment.

Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has been moved out of the intensive care unit as he continues to recover from a serious internal injury. The middle-order batter was hospitalized after hurting himself while fielding during the third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Scans later confirmed the 30-year-old has sustained a laceration to his spleen, but his condition is now described as stable and he is improving under medical supervision.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is ensuring he receives comprehensive care, with the team doctor remaining in Sydney to monitor his daily progress.

While his health remains delicate, Iyer is expected to stay in the hospital for a few more days. His family is making arrangements to travel to Sydney, and a full recovery is the priority before any return to cricket is considered.

The BCCI provided an official update, stating: “Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on 25th October 2025. He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

Medical Team Gives Update On Iyer’s Recovery

Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status. The Indian Team Doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to evaluate his day-to-day progress.”

According to reports, the BCCI, team management, and Iyer’s family are adopting a cautious approach, prioritizing his full recovery over a rushed return. He was not part of the upcoming T20I squad and had already requested a break from red-ball cricket, so his immediate focus remains solely on his health.
