The announcement was made by actor Salman Khan during the popular reality show Bigg Boss. Iyer, accompanied by teammates Yuzvendra Chahal and Shashank Singh, was present. He expressed gratitude for the faith shown by Punjab Kings’ management.
“I am honoured that the team has reposed its faith in me. I am looking forward to working again with Coach Ponting. The team looks strong, with a great mix of potential and proven performers. I hope to repay the faith shown by the management to deliver our maiden title,” Shreyas said.
In IPL, the 30-year-old has been a consistent performer, amassing 2,375 runs with a strike rate of 123.96, including 16 half-centuries. His best IPL score is 96, and last season, he scored 351 runs in 15 matches at an average of 39.00 and a strike rate exceeding 146. Punjab Kings, now under new head coach Ricky Ponting, are optimistic about the upcoming season. Ponting highlighted Shreyas Iyer’s game sense and leadership, noting their successful collaboration at Delhi Capitals.
“Shreyas has a great mind for the game. His proven capabilities as captain will enable the team to deliver. I have enjoyed my time with Iyer in the past in IPL, and I look forward to working with him again. With his leadership and the talent in the squad, I am excited about the seasons ahead,” Ponting said.
The franchise also signed Yuzvendra Chahal for INR 18 crore, Marcus Stoinis for INR 11 crore, and Glenn Maxwell for INR 4.2 crore. Arshdeep Singh was retained using an RTM card for INR 18 crore.
