Shreyas Iyer on India Snub
Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has finally addressed his exclusion from the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 squad, acknowledging his disappointment but emphasizing the importance of supporting fellow teammates and maintaining professional integrity, both on and off the field.
Iyer, who had an exceptional IPL 2025 season leading the Punjab Kings (PBKS), was widely expected to feature in the Asia Cup squad. His omission sparked widespread discussion among fans and analysts, especially given his impressive recent performances in T20 cricket.
Speaking during a podcast appearance on iQOO India’s YouTube channel, Iyer reflected on the mental challenges of not being selected, stating:
“It’s frustrating when you know you deserve a spot in the playing XI. But at the same time, when another player is doing well and contributing to the team’s success, you have to support them. Ultimately, what matters most is the team winning — and when that happens, everyone’s happy.”
He also stressed the value of consistent work ethic, regardless of external recognition:

“Even if you’re not in the squad, you must keep doing your work with integrity. It shouldn’t be just for show. Even when no one’s watching, your commitment and preparation should remain the same.”
Since India’s T20 World Cup triumph last year, Iyer has featured in 26 T20Is, amassing 949 runs at an average of 49.94 and a phenomenal strike rate of 179.73. His tally includes one century and seven fifties, with a personal best of 130 not out.
