In the Buchi Babu tournament, Shreyas Iyer surprised everyone by imitating his IPL teammate Sunil Narine’s bowling action while taking the final over for Mumbai.
During the Buchi Babu tournament on Tuesday, Shreyas Iyer showcased a unique bowling style for Mumbai by mimicking his IPL teammate, Sunil Narine. Mumbai faced TNCA XI in an exciting match featuring notable players such as Pradosh Ranjan Paul and Baba Indrajith for TNCA XI. Mumbai boasted names like Sarfaraz Khan, Musheer Khan, and Shams Mulani. India internationals Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav also joined Mumbai for this final group match.
Mumbai began the game with the ball, and Shreyas took the field in the final over of the day with the scoreboard at 287-5. Known for his previous leg-spin performances, Shreyas surprised everyone by imitating Narine’s unique bowling action. He executed the delivery with Narine’s signature grip and run-up, though he did not quite match Narine’s success. His over yielded seven runs without taking a wicket. By the end of the first day, TNCA XI had a solid score of 294-5 after 90 overs.

However, this isn’t the first time Shreyas has imitated Narine; he previously showcased the same bowling style during the IPL 2024 final preparations in the nets. This imitation also follows a similar instance where Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza had earlier adapted Narine’s action.
In other news, Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar are both eyeing a return to Test cricket. Although SKY is not currently in the BCCI’s Test plans, he remains interested in participating in all formats. Iyer, meanwhile, has struggled to maintain his earlier Test form and was eventually dropped from the BCCI central contracts despite a promising start to his Test career.
