Shubman Gill Eyes Redemption in Ranji Trophy

Shubman Gill was named in Punjab’s squad for their upcoming Ranji Trophy match after a disappointing Test series in Australia.
Star Indian batter Shubman Gill is expected to play for Punjab in their upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Karnataka. Punjab will face Karnataka in the sixth Elite Group C encounter of the ongoing 2024-25 season, scheduled from January 23 to 26.
According to a report by The Indian Express, the 25-year-old cricketer, who has amassed 4,481 runs in 60 first-class matches, “will turn up to play for Punjab against Karnataka.” Gill’s return to domestic cricket comes on the heels of a below-par performance in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where India suffered a 1-3 defeat.
Gill struggled for form throughout the Test series in Australia. After missing the first Test due to a finger injury, he scored 31, 28, and 1 in the subsequent matches. Despite making a comeback in the fourth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, he managed only 20 and 13 runs in the final match. His temperament, rather than his technique, was under scrutiny during the series, which saw him dropped from the playing XI for the Boxing Day Test due to tactical reasons.
Meanwhile, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma could also feature in the Ranji Trophy. The veteran was spotted practicing with Mumbai team for a team practice session at the Wankhede Stadium.
An MCA source stated, “He will be coming for practice sessions with the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team, and it is still not decided whether he will be playing the next Ranji Trophy game against J&K. He will inform the MCA in due course.”
