Shubman Gill has touched down in Ahmedabad ahead of India’s showdown with Pakistan on October 14, but his availability for the match remains in question as he continues his recovery.

Shubman Gill arrived in Ahmedabad on October 12, 2023, gearing up for the ODI World Cup clash against Pakistan on October 14. His arrival came with doubts due to his recent recovery from dengue fever, which had previously landed him in a Chennai hospital and forced him to miss India’s first two World Cup match against Australia and Afganisthan.

Gill’s 2023 performance has been nothing short of spectacular. He topped the charts as the year’s leading run-scorer, accumulating an impressive 1230 runs at an average of 72.35 and a strike rate of 105.03. His standout achievements extended to the Asia Cup 2023, where he emerged as the highest run-scorer, amassing 302 runs.

While BCCI sources had indicated Gill’s positive progress, his availability for the crucial Pakistan match remained shrouded in uncertainty.

According to AIIMS’ Dr. Amrinder Singh, Shubman Gill’s dengue recovery requires time and specific care. Dr. Singh advised Gill to focus on ample fluid intake and managing myalgias and joint pain for a speedier recovery.

Shubman Gill’s absence led to Ishan Kishan partnering Rohit Sharma at the top, delivering results that varied. In Chennai, Kishan had a rough start, getting out for zero. However, in the Delhi match against Afghanistan on Wednesday, he made a strong comeback, scoring a solid 47 runs.
