Navjot Singh Sidhu praised KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir for his ability to rise to the occasion and provide valuable guidance during challenging situations, as KKR secured the first playoff spot in IPL 2024.
Kolkata Knight Riders have clinched the first playoff spot in IPL 2024 after defeating Mumbai Indians on May 11, marking their ninth win in 12 matches and securing the top spot in the standings. Notably, KKR had finished seventh in the previous two seasons. However, with Shreyas Iyer returning as skipper and franchise legend Gautam Gambhir also leading the team, they’ve experienced a remarkable turnaround this season.
Navjot Singh Sidhu praised Gambhir for his ability to excel under pressure, highlighting his knack for offering valuable guidance in tough situations. Sidhu emphasized Gambhir’s leadership during adversity, likening it to learning to navigate rough seas, where true leadership shines. He also highlighted Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowling skills as their key to success, highlighting how five bowlers have each claimed 10 wickets.
“I have seen Gautam Gambhir gets inspired when the situation gets tough, he starts advising and that’s how it should be. Anybody can be a pilot when the sea is calm but you only learn when in adverse situations,” Sidhu told Star Sports.
“KKR is the only team with five bowlers who have taken 10 wickets each and the sixth has taken 9 wickets. Show me a team that has six bowlers who have 60 wickets between them,” he added.

Looking ahead, KKR will face the Gujarat Titans in their next match, scheduled for May 13 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Titans, buoyed by a recent victory against Chennai Super Kings will aim to maintain their winning streak.
