Navjot Singh Sidhu took a dig at Michael Vaughan following India’s performance on Day 1 of the first Test at Headingley. Sidhu criticised Vaughan’s pre-match prediction favouring England, calling it yet another inaccurate forecast. He also pointed to Vaughan’s past remarks during the World Test Championship final, where South Africa’s win over Australia proved his prediction wrong.
Sidhu then questioned the strength of England’s pace attack, calling it ineffective after Indian batters scored freely. India ended the day strongly at 359 for 3.
“Fools grow without watering. Michael Vaughan, your predictions. They’re always wrong,” Sidhu lashed out in a video shared by Star Sports.
“Look at your bowling attack. They’re pedestrians. I mean, three of the Indian batsmen are stepping out and hitting them like spinners. Boss, noise proves nothing. Even a hen, while laying an egg, cackles as if she’s laying an asteroid. Stop making the noise, do something. There is no suffering that pity will not insult. Man, you’re in a pitiable situation,” he added.
In the match, India posted a commanding 471 in their first innings on Day 2 of the opening Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. Resuming from 359 for 3, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill added 209 runs for the fourth wicket. Pant struck a fluent 134 off 178 balls, bringing up his seventh Test century with a six. Gill, who began the day on 127, was eventually dismissed for a career-best 147 off 227 deliveries. Both Josh Tongue and Ben Stokes picked four wickets each.
Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 101 in overcast conditions, while KL Rahul chipped in with 42. Karun Nair, returning after eight years, fell for a duck to a sharp catch by Ollie Pope. Sai Sudharsan, making his debut, was also dismissed for a four-ball duck.
