Sri Lanka Cricket announced India’s tour in late July, with reports suggesting the BCCI might rest senior players and KL Rahul could lead the team.
India will be visiting Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I and ODI series scheduled for late July and early August. Interestingly, this tour marks the first assignment for both teams under new leadership.
The series kicks off with back-to-back T20I matches on July 26th, 27th and 29th at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. The venue then shifts to the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo for the three ODIs, starting on August 1st with two-day gaps between each match.
Notably, the Men in Blue enters the series fresh off their victory at the T20 World Cup 2024, with Gautam Gambhir taking the lead as head coach following Rahul Dravid’s successful tenure. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will be led by interim head coach Sanath Jayasuriya after being knocked out of the T20 World Cup group stage. Their players most recently participated in the Sri Lanka Premier League in 2024.

Sri Lanka Cricket has announced that the Indian team will arrive in the island nation on July 22nd for their upcoming tour. There have also been reports suggesting the BCCI might rest senior players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah for the series. KL Rahul is rumoured to be in contention to lead the Men in Blue in Rohit Sharma’s absence.
This upcoming series marks a rematch of India’s 2021 tour to Sri Lanka, where India emerged victorious in the ODI series (2-1) under Dravid’s temporary coaching role and Shikhar Dhawan’s captaincy. Sri Lanka, however, claimed a narrow win (2-1) in the T20I leg. It will also be India’s second T20I series following their ongoing tour of Zimbabwe.
