Sourav Ganguly urged the BCCI to choose the next head coach of the Indian cricket team wisely amidst speculation about Rahul Dravid’s successor.
Sourav Ganguly, former captain of the Indian cricket team and president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), took to social media to emphasise the importance of picking the right head coach for the national team.
“The coach’s guidance and relentless training shape the future of any player, both on and off the field. So choose the coach and institution wisely,” Ganguly posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle.
His cryptic message came amidst speculation regarding the next head coach for the Indian men’s cricket team. Rahul Dravid’s current stint as coach ends after the T20 World Cup next month, and he reportedly is not interested in reapplying.
Gautam Gambhir, who recently guided the Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL title, is said to be the frontrunner for the position. Gambhir has a successful history with the IPL, having led the Kolkata Knight Riders to two championships during his captaincy and guiding the Lucknow Super Giants to the playoffs in his time as mentor.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has already dismissed the possibility of having separate coaches for red-ball and white-ball cricket, indicating the chosen coach will oversee all formats of the game.
Hence, Gambhir’s chances of becoming the head coach are at their peak. Ganguly’s cryptic message of choosing a coach wisely only hinted at a possible re-thinking from BCCI’s side before appointing Gambhir as India’s next head coach.
