In New Zealand’s ODI win against Bangladesh in Dunedin, Will Young shone both with the bat and on the field. Scoring an impressive 105 runs while opening the batting during a rain-affected match, he led New Zealand to a total of 239 in 30 overs.
However, it was his outstanding catch that stole the spotlight. With Bangladesh at 174-7, Young made a stunning backward dive at deep square leg, clutching a high-hit ball with one hand, landing within the boundary, and miraculously preventing his back from touching the rope. Adam Milne’s amazed reaction captured the brilliance of Young’s catch.
Following a review, Young’s incredible catch was confirmed, leading to Shoriful Islam’s dismissal for five runs. Expressing his astonishment, Young mentioned he was unsure of what happened as the ball soared high and veered away from him, but he managed to grab it.
“It went really high, then as it was coming down, it kept going away from me. I stuck [a] hand out, and somehow it stuck in my hand. It was good to get the wicket for Milney. He looked pretty shocked on the replay,” Young told to TVNS post-match.
Despite Bangladesh finishing at 200-9 in 30 overs, the Black Caps secured a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
