Bumrah has been rested for the fourth Test against England in Ranchi, with KL Rahul also expected to miss the match due to fitness concerns.

Jasprit Bumrah will sit out of the fourth Test against England in Ranchi, starting on February 23, while KL Rahul, who missed the previous two Tests, is also expected to skip this match due to fitness concerns, with his availability for the final Test in Dharamsala uncertain.

“Jasprit Bumrah has been released from the squad for the 4th IDFC First Bank Test against England in Ranchi. The decision was taken keeping in mind the duration of the series and the amount of cricket he has played in recent times. Meanwhile, KL Rahul is ruled out of the 4th Test. His participation in the final Test match in Dharamsala is subject to fitness,” the official statement from the BCCI read.

Bumrah’s rest is aimed at managing his workload, having bowled 80.5 overs in the first three Tests, especially considering the upcoming IPL season and the 2024 T20 World Cup. Although there were speculations about Bumrah’s rest for the third Test in Rajkot, he eventually played as the series was tied at 1-1.

Meanwhile, Mukesh Kumar rejoins the squad in Ranchi after being released for the third Test; he impressed with a remarkable performance for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, securing a career-best match haul of 10 for 50 against Bihar.

India, now leading the series 2-1, faces a challenge with Bumrah’s absence. The leading wicket-taker of the series, he claimed 17 wickets at 13.64 each. He earned the Player of the Match title in the second Test at Visakhapatnam, securing 9 for 91 in both innings.

India’s updated squad for the 4th Test: Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel (WK), KS Bharat (WK), Devdutt Padikkal, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep.
