CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan shared that Stephen Fleming may not be interested in becoming India’s next coach, citing his reluctance to commit to the extensive time demands involved.
The upcoming vacancy for the head coach position of the Indian men’s cricket team has drawn attention, with Chennai Super Kings’ Stephen Fleming reportedly being considered. In an interview, CSK CEO K.S. Viswanathan hinted that Fleming might not be keen on the role due to the extensive time commitment it entails. Viswanathan also shared a lighthearted exchange where he asked Fleming if he had applied for the job, to which the coach humorously responded.
“I jokingly asked him, ‘Have you applied for the Indian coaching assignment?’ Stephen just laughed and said, ‘Do you want me to?’”, he said.
Meanwhile, Viswanathan expressed doubt about Fleming’s interest in the India coach job, noting, “I know that it’s not going to be his cup of tea because he doesn’t like to be involved for nine to 10 months in a year. That’s my feeling. I have not discussed anything more with him.”

The role of a multi-format coach demands a significant time commitment, requiring the coach to be present with the team for about ten months, aligning with the packed men’s team schedule.
With Rahul Dravid’s current contract expiring post-T20 World Cup, the former Indian captain has the choice to reapply but was reportedly not interested in continuing. The Indian board has set a deadline of May 27 for coaching role applications.
