With insights into crucial bowling changes that previously proved costly, Gavaskar predicts Cummins’ captaincy will significantly impact the team’s performance.

“I think Pat Cummins was a smart buy, maybe a little over-expensive. Smart buy because he will bring the leadership aspect to their team, which was lacking the last time around,” Gavaskar said.
Last time around, some of the bowling changes that we saw in crucial games were just head-scratching, and that cost them matches. So now with Pat Cummins coming in, I am pretty certain that he will be the captain of the team and that will make a huge difference,” he added.
Gavaskar also highlighted Pat Cummins’ dual strength as a bowler and a handy batter, referencing his remarkable 14-ball half-century in IPL 2022 for Kolkata Knight Riders against Mumbai Indians.
Regarding Travis Head’s acquisition by SunRisers Hyderabad, the former skipper praised his ability to seize control of matches, citing his impactful performance in the World Cup finals. Gavaskar envisions Head as an ideal top-order batsman, capable of delivering entertaining cricket alongside potential opening partners such as Mayank Agarwal or Rahul Tripathi.
