India’s star batter Suryakumar Yadav will captain the team for the first time in a major multi-nation tournament at the Asia Cup 2025. This event will test his ability to handle pressure, squad rotation, and team management ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
So far, Suryakumar has led India to 13 wins in 15 matches, including series wins against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and South Africa. He remains focused on following strategies that have worked in bilateral series instead of making unnecessary changes. While some view India as the clear favourites, he downplayed the hype and emphasized that the team’s goal is to perform consistently.
“Till now everything is going alright sir, toh kyu bina matlab ka ungli karna hai? (Why unnecessarily meddle?) We will continue to do and follow the same things we have done in all of the bilaterals so far. If some things are working, that means we are moving in the right direction,” he said at the captains’ press conference ahead of the tournament.

“Who told you this? I did not hear this. Yes, we are playing T20 cricket as a team after quite some time, but we were here early,” he added.
India’s opening match against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be their first white-ball game since the ICC Champions Trophy final in March.. It also serves as preparation ahead of their high-profile match against Pakistan on September 14.
