During his recovery from injury, Suryakumar Yadav found comfort in watching Mumbai Indians’ games, which motivated him to work harder towards his comeback.
Suryakumar Yadav had been sidelined due to injury but found comfort in Mumbai Indians’ games during his recovery. He returned to IPL 2024 against Delhi Capitals but faced a disappointing performance, having been out of action since January’s T20I against South Africa due to a sports hernia.
Despite setbacks, Suryakumar emphasized the importance of a positive mindset, adopting healthier habits like maintaining a proper sleep schedule and reading books for the first time. His focus on rehab, coupled with small lifestyle changes, aided his quicker recovery, although he had to tackle multiple niggles step by step.
“That’s why I started focussing on doing all the smaller things like sleeping on time and following a good diet. I’ve never read a book in my life, and I started doing that as well. Getting up in the morning and spending good quality time at the rehab centre and connecting everything, my body, brain with the rehab, and it helped me really well to recover a little faster. Since I had 2–3 niggles at once, I had to take it one step at a time,” Suryakumar Yadav said in a video for IPL.
SKY also reflected on the challenge of watching Mumbai Indians’ games while recovering from injury, admitting he could only catch half of the innings due to his early bedtime in Bangalore. Despite the difficulty, he found motivation in seeing his team play, pushing him to work harder on his recovery.
“Always difficult when your team is playing, and you are sitting in the room watching. I can’t say that I didn’t watch, I would watch half the games because I was sleeping on time when I was in Bangalore at about 10.30-10.45. So I used to watch only half the innings but would watch the entire game in the highlights the next day. It was difficult, but it gave me a lot of motivation and inspiration looking at them that they are playing there, and I’ve to work really hard, work on myself and my recovery and get out there as soon as possible,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians faced a tough start in IPL 2024, losing their initial three matches before securing their first win against Delhi Capitals. Their upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru presents an opportunity for the five-time champions to capitalize on RCB’s struggles and earn crucial points.
