Reports suggest that Suryakumar Yadav, dealing with a sports hernia, will likely sit out the entire domestic season and early IPL matches, as he prepares for surgery in Germany after recuperating at the NCA.
India’s standout T20 batsman, Suryakumar Yadav, faces a setback with an ankle injury forcing his absence from the Afghanistan T20I series. However, the challenge escalates as a sports hernia sidelines him not just from the entire domestic season but also potentially from the start of the IPL.
According to a BCCI source quoted by Times Of India, SKY’s recent diagnosis led to his stay at the National Cricket Academy for recovery before he journeys to Munich for surgery. This also marks his absence from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy campaign and could impact his participation in the initial IPL matches with Mumbai Indians.
“SKY was recently diagnosed with sports hernia. He is currently recuperating at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. In two to three days, he will fly for Munich, Germany, to get operated for it. It means that he certainly won’t be playing for Mumbai this season in the Ranji Trophy and is likely to miss the initial games for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL,” said the source.
“With the T20 World Cup in June, Surya will be given all the time to recover properly. He is crucial to India’s chances in the T20 World Cup,” the source added.
SKY was previously sidelined from the forthcoming T20I series against Afghanistan due to an ankle injury sustained in South Africa’s final 20-over match last December. He underwent surgery and was seen using a leg brace during his visit to the UK.
Off the field, he has been nominated by the ICC for the 2023 T20I Cricketer of the Year, competing with players like Sikandar Raza, Mark Chapman, and Alpesh Ramjani. With 733 runs in 17 T20I innings at an average of 48.86 and an impressive 155.95 strike rate, SKY notched two centuries and five half-centuries.
