Suryakumar Yadav, after being cleared by the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, is expected to make a comeback for Mumbai Indians against Delhi Capitals on Sunday, April 7th.
Suryakumar Yadav is set to make a comeback for Mumbai Indians in their upcoming IPL match against Delhi Capitals at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. The National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru gave the green light after thorough assessment, following Yadav’s three-month absence. The BCCI and NCA have ensured Yadav’s complete fitness before his return, conducting multiple tests to confirm his readiness.
After suffering a grade II ankle tear during the T20I series in South Africa, Yadav was initially sidelined for seven weeks. Unfortunately, another injury emerged, leading to a hernia operation that prolonged his absence.
A source within the BCCI revealed that the batter underwent practice games and three fitness tests at the NCA, where he showcased his fitness. Initial concerns about Yadav’s fitness during the IPL were also addressed.
“He is fit now. The NCA made him play a few practice games and he looked good. He can join the Mumbai Indians team. We wanted to be sure that when Surya goes back to MI, he is 100 percent fit and ready to play games. He wasn’t feeling 100% during his first fitness Test before the IPL so we waited to see if there was any pain while he was batting,” The Indian Express quoted a BCCI source as saying.
As the top-ranked T20I batsman by ICC, Yadav’s return will significantly boost Mumbai Indians, who have faced three consecutive defeats in IPL 2024. With new captain Hardik Pandya under scrutiny from fans, his availability brings much-needed hope for a turnaround in the team’s fortunes.
