Suryakumar Yadav revealed the message that he gave to his players before taking on the Sri Lankan team on July 30th.
India completed a comprehensive 3-0 whitewash over Sri Lanka in the final T20I, with a heart-stopping Super Over finish. Reduced to 20 overs due to rain, India struggled to get going, with the top order collapsing.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson fell easily, followed by Rinku Singh, leaving India reeling at 30/3. However, a crucial partnership between Shubman Gill and Riyan Parag helped the team build a stable inning, taking the score past the hundred-run mark. Gill top-scored with 39, while Parag contributed a valuable 26. Washington Sundar’s late cameo of 25 helped India post a respectable total of 137/9.
In the post-match presentation, Yadav shared the pep talk he gave to his team that set the tone for the game and helped India clinch the win over Sri Lanka. “More than the last over, I feel when we were around 30 for 4 and 48 for 5, how the boys showed character in the middle and took the game away from them, I felt 140 was par score on that track and the way they batted. When we were going in during our fielding sessions, I told them I had seen such kinds of games. I think if we put our hearts in for one and a half hours, we can pull it off,” Suryakumar said.

In response, Sri Lanka’s chase got off to a flying start, with Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis building a solid opening stand. However, the introduction of spin changed the complexion of the match. Ravi Bishnoi and Washington Sundar struck crucial blows, dismissing key batters and putting the brakes on Sri Lanka’s momentum.
With the equation down to six runs from the final over, Suryakumar Yadav’s bowling heroics brought the match to a super over. Washington picked up two wickets, restricting Sri Lanka to just two runs. In reply, Suryakumar finished the job with a boundary on the first ball, sealing a dramatic victory for India.
