After the T20 World Cup 2024, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah presented Suryakumar Yadav with the ‘Fielder of the Match’ award following India’s seven-run victory over South Africa in the final. This win marked India’s first ICC trophy win in several years, ending a long-awaited drought.
With 16 runs needed from the final over, Suryakumar managed a stunning catch on the boundary ropes off David Miller’s shot, demonstrating precise control as he caught the ball, released it before crossing the boundary, and swiftly returned to complete the catch.
Jay Shah presented the medal to Surya, who joyfully displayed both his World Cup medal and the ‘Fielder of the Match’ award. The BCCI’s official social media handle shared a video of the medal ceremony held in the dressing room, a tradition following each game.

India’s fielding coach T Dilip lauded the team’s collective effort, emphasizing their exceptional intensity, camaraderie, and resilience throughout the tournament.
“We talk about rising to the occasion in big games today. We just didn’t rise, but we conquered today. The intensity, the camaraderie, the resilience, that we are shown today and also throughout the tournament, we are nothing short of extraordinary stuff like a pack of wolves. Well, Rahul and Rohit keep saying everybody knew their role. But together we hunted every opportunity which came our way, leaving no stone unturned,” Dilip said.
“Thank you so much, sir, for giving me this opportunity and collecting this medal from Jay sir,” Suryakumar said after winning the medal.
