Suryakumar Yadav Opens Up After Clinching T20I Series Win Against Sri Lanka: “This Is The Brand Of Cricket We Want To Play”

After India clinched the T20I series win against Sri Lanka, captain Suryakumar Yadav shared the thoughts behind the team’s approach and how well it was executed.

India clinched the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka with a seven-wicket victory in a rain-affected second match on Sunday. Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy got off to a winning start as India chased down a revised target of 78 runs in eight overs.

Suryakumar Yadav has therefore, rewritten the team’s commitment to be an attacking brand of cricket. Speaking after India’s victory, Yadav emphasised that the decision to adopt an aggressive approach was made collectively before the series began.

“We spoke about this before the start of the tournament – what brand of cricket we want to play. This is the template we want to go ahead with. With the weather around, anything below 160 would have been nice. Rain helped us,” Suryakumar Yadav said at the post-match presentation.

He also credited the team’s batting performance and said he was pleased with the character shown by his players in challenging conditions. “The way the boys batted was wonderful. We’ll sit and decide (when asked if they’ll test their bench strength). Very happy for the boys. Showed a lot of character in tough situations,” added the skipper.

Speaking of the match, Sri Lanka, batting first, posted a total of 161/9, with Kusal Perera’s 53 being the standout innings. Ravi Bishnoi led the Indian bowlers with three wickets. In response, with a revised target, India lost Sanju Samson early, but Yashasvi Jaiswal (30) and Suryakumar Yadav (26) steadied the ship. Hardik Pandya finished the game with an unbeaten 22 to seal the win for India.
