Sanju Samson in India's squad for Bangladesh T201s "I Desire to Play Tests for India," Samson as He Prepares for Ranji

Suryakumar Yadav revealed that Gautam Gambhir firmly supported Sanju Samson’s inclusion in India’s T20I squad for the Asia Cup, regardless of his batting position.

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav revealed that head coach Gautam Gambhir was firm about backing Sanju Samson for the Asia Cup, ensuring his place in the playing XI despite strong competition. Samson, who scored three centuries as an opener earlier this year, has now adapted well to his middle-order role. His composed knock against Pakistan in the Asia Cup solidified his position, showing he could deliver under pressure and thrive in different batting roles for India.

“With the addition of Shubman Gill and Jitesh Sharma in the squad, everyone thought Jitesh would start over Sanju Samson. But Gauti bhai was clear from day one that Sanju should play, no matter which batting position he is in,” Suryakumar said while speaking on Vimal Kumar’s podcast.

Meanwhile, Sanju Samson expressed that playing for India remains his top priority, even if it means making personal sacrifices. Speaking at the CEAT Cricket Awards in Mumbai, he said representing the country is a privilege he deeply values. Samson added that he is willing to take on any role required.

“When you wear that Indian jersey, you cannot say no to anything. I have really worked very hard to wear that jersey and more importantly, to stay in their dressing room,” Samson said.

“I take a lot of pride in doing a job for my country. So even if they want to bat me at number 9, maybe bowl some left arm spin, I think I am happy to do that as well. So whatever job for the country, I think I do not mind,” Samson said.
