Suryakumar Yadav will be joining the MI camp in their net sessions before the team clashes with DC on April 7th.
Mumbai Indians star batter Suryakumar Yadav has been declared to return to action in the ongoing IPL in 2024. According to Cricbuzz, Yadav has received clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and is expected to rejoin his team on Friday, April 5th.
Yadav has been sidelined from competitive cricket since December 2023. A grade 2 ankle tear sustained during the third T20I against South Africa required surgery. Unfortunately, his recovery was further delayed by a sports hernia surgery, necessitating an extended rehabilitation stint at the NCA in Bengaluru.
Earlier, a BCCI source reported about his recovery. “He is fit now. The NCA made him play a few practice games, and he looked good. He can join the Mumbai Indians team. We wanted to be sure that when Surya goes back to Michigan, he is 100 percent fit and ready to play games. He wasn’t feeling 100% during his first fitness test before the IPL, so we waited to see if there was any pain while he was batting,” said the BCCI source, as quoted by The Indian Express.

Notably, the 33-year-old batter is expected to participate in the Mumbai Indians’ practice session at Wankhede Stadium on Friday as they prepare for their upcoming home match against the Delhi Capitals on April 7th. The team management will assess his fitness during the net session before making a final decision on his playing status for the match.
The news of Yadav’s return came as a welcome relief for the Mumbai Indians, who have endured a challenging start to the IPL 2024 season under the leadership of new skipper Hardik Pandya. The team has suffered three consecutive defeats—against the Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals.
Yadav’s return will be a significant boost to the Mumbai Indians’ batting lineup. His aggressive batting style and ability to score runs quickly in the middle overs will be crucial for the team’s turnaround.
