Suryakumar Yadav faces a seven-week absence due to a Grade-II ankle tear sustained while fielding in South Africa; the injury should heal by early February following a recent scan.
Suryakumar Yadav’s Grade-II ankle tear will sideline him for seven weeks after a fielding mishap during the third T20I in Johannesburg. A recent scan upon his return from South Africa confirmed the extent of the injury. He’s set to miss the upcoming three-T20I series against Afghanistan from January 11 and will undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy.
“He will take some time to recover. He will have to report to the National Cricket Academy later to do his rehabilitation. He is surely going to miss the Afghanistan series,” a source in the Indian board informed The Indian Express.
Recently, Suryakumar Yadav’s wife shared a photo on her Instagram story, revealing Surya wearing an ankle cast.
The Indian Express further reported that if all goes well, he aims to regain fitness by early February. Despite his injury, after India’s win in Johannesburg, Surya reassured him, “I am good. I am walking, so good.”
SKY injured his ankle while fielding, affecting his availability for the T20I series. With Hardik Pandya, the designated captain, still recovering from a prior ankle injury from the World Cup, the BCCI faces the challenge of appointing a new captain for the Afghanistan series, closely following the conclusion of the South Africa Test series.
