Due to security threats against Virat Kohli, RCB canceled their practice session before the IPL 2024 eliminator match, and Gujarat Police has reportedly arrested four suspects at the Ahmedabad airport.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru made an unexpected move by calling off their sole practice session ahead of the IPL 2024 Eliminator clash with the Rajasthan Royals. Originally planned at the Gujarat College ground in Ahmedabad, the session cancellation raised eyebrows without an official explanation.
In contrast, the Rajasthan Royals proceeded with their routine net practice at the same venue. Notably, a press conference absence, unusual for a crucial IPL knockout fixture, added to the intrigue.
Reports from Anandabazar Patrika suggested a threat to Virat Kohli prompted Royal Challengers Bengaluru to cancel their practice session. Gujarat Police acted swiftly, arresting four suspects at Ahmedabad’s airport, seizing arms, incriminating videos, and communications from their hideout. The police timely informed Rajasthan Royals and RCB about the potential danger. While RR proceeded with their practice, RCB opted to refrain from outdoor activities.
“Virat Kohli learned about the arrests after arriving in Ahmedabad. He is a national treasure, and his security is our utmost priority,” said Vijay Singh Jwala, a police officer.
“RCB did not want to take a risk. They informed us that there would be no practice session. Rajasthan Royals were also informed about the development, but they had no problems going ahead with their practice,” the official added.
It was also reported that strict security measures surrounded Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s team hotel, with exclusive entry for team members and restricted access for others, including media. In contrast, the Rajasthan Royals team utilized a “green corridor” for their arrival at the ground, escorted by three police convoys. Security presence was also robust during RR’s training, with police patrols covering the entire ground.
