In a dominant display at the 2024 T20 World Cup, India secured a convincing 50-run victory over Bangladesh.
Put to bat first by Bangladesh, India showed quite a good display of batting skills to put together a strong total of 196 runs for the loss of five wickets. The opening partnership between Virat Kohli (37) and Rohit Sharma (23) was, however, not long enough; Kohli was dismissed by Tanzim Hasan Sakib in the 9th over, quickly followed by Suryakumar Yadav after a ball, who failed to impress in this match.
Shivam Dube (34), in the middle overs, came in to rescue the match along with Rishabh Pant (36). However, both of them were sent back by Rishad Hossain (2/43). Hardik Pandaya’s valiant 50 off 27 balls and Dube’s patient knock propelled India to the challenging total, which seemed mammoth in front of Bangladesh’s batting reply.
Coming to bat first, opener Litton Das fell for 13 runs courtesy of Hardik Pandya. Tanzid Hasan fell in the 10th over, followed by Towhid Hridoy. Shakib Al-Hasan also could not give his best with the bat. It was only Bangladesh skipper Shanto (40) who played a decent knock to keep Bangladesh’s hopes alive; however, he was sent back to the pavilion by Bumrah in the 16th over. At the end of the 16th over, Bangladesh was reeling at 110/6. The chase was seemingly impossible in the 18th over, and Arshdeep Singh came in to bowl the final over and take the game home for India, sealing the victory by 50 runs.
Kuldeep Yadav picked up the most wickets among the Indian bowlers, scalping 3 for 19 runs. Arshdeep and Jasprit both picked two each, with Hardik Pandya also contributing with one wicket.
