Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, the Indian cricket team’s first practice session in New York’s Cantiague Park revealed “average” facilities that have reportedly left coach Rahul Dravid displeased.
Team India has expressed dissatisfaction with the practice facilities provided by the ICC for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in New York. The team is currently training at Cantiague Park, New York, where they will play their initial Group A matches, including a highly anticipated clash against Pakistan on June 9. The makeshift Nassau County International Cricket Stadium lacks practice pitches, prompting India to train in Cantiague Park.
Reports from News18 CricketNext suggest that India finds the facilities subpar, describing them as “average” and makeshift. Despite using three of the available six drop-in pitches at Cantiague Park, the team has raised concerns about the overall quality of amenities provided, highlighting the need for improvements ahead of the tournament.
“Everything is makeshift – from pitches to other facilities. Safe to say everything is very average in nature. The team has raised their concerns,” a source revealed.
The USA is hosting its first ICC event, featuring 16 matches across three venues. However, lacking a strong cricket infrastructure like India or Australia, the country faces a significant test. Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas suffered storm damage, canceling warm-up games. Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida, is the third venue for the World Cup matches in the USA.
India’s sole warm-up match against Bangladesh on June 1 will be held at Cantiague Park, their training venue until the game. This park will remain their only practice facility throughout the tournament, with three out of four group matches scheduled in New York against Pakistan, USA, and Ireland.
