Nasser Hussain, acknowledging England’s current form, predicts South Africa as the potential winner of the T20 World Cup 2024, envisioning a final clash between South Africa and England.
Amidst the cricket world’s shift towards the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024 following last year’s focus on ODIs, the ICC has outlined the tournament to unfold in West Indies and the USA from June 4 to June 30. While the official match lineup awaits confirmation, former England captain Nasser Hussain shared his predictions.
Noting England’s recent challenges in white-ball cricket, Hussain envisioned their presence in the final yet anticipated them to fall short of retaining their championship title. He also turned his gaze toward South Africa, tipping them as strong contenders for their first-ever World Cup triumph.
“I haven’t thought too much about this actually…but I’m going to go with South Africa. England are (reigning) champions, but not playing particularly well at the moment. It’s in the Caribbean and West Indies are going OK, then you have Pakistan, so can I choose all of these sides? I’m going to go for South Africa versus England in the final,” Hussain said.
Hussain also held a distinct view on potential Player of the Tournament contenders. While South Africa boasts formidable talents, Hussain veered towards India’s Suryakumar Yadav as the standout prospect. Hussain lauded SKY’s exceptional skills, describing him as a standout figure in T20 cricket.
“The person for the world to watch out for at the moment in T20 is Suryakumar Yadav. I mean, the bloke is a freak. The cliche of Mr. 360, but some of the shots he plays…and he is a bit of a freak because in fifty-overs cricket, he does not quite know when to go, when not to go, what to do. But in T20 cricket, he absolutely knows what to do every single time almost, and it is a fun game, T20 cricket and watching SKY, that is absolutely fun,” he concluded.
