T20 World Cup Final In February
T20 World Cup to take place in February 2026. Final venue likely to be Narendra Modi Stadium.
The highly anticipated 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, is tentatively scheduled to take place from February 7 to March 8. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, the final match of the tournament is likely to be played at the massive Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
However, there is still a possibility that the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo could host the final instead. This decision will reportedly depend on the geopolitical situation, particularly concerning Pakistan’s progression in the tournament. Given the current diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan, which prevent the Pakistani team from playing in India, the location of the final may be shifted if Pakistan reaches the closing stages of the competition.
The tournament will follow the same structure as the 2024 edition. A total of 20 teams will participate, initially divided into four groups of five. The top two teams from each group will move on to the Super Eight stage, which will be split into two groups of four. From there, the top two teams in each Super Eight group will qualify for the semi-finals, leading to a final that will crown the world champions.
In total, the tournament will feature 55 matches. Matches will be played across at least five venues in India and two in Sri Lanka. While the complete schedule and list of host cities have not yet been officially released, the tournament window has already been shared with participating nations to allow for logistical preparation.
So far, fifteen teams have already secured their places in the 2026 tournament. Among them is Italy, who have qualified for the T20 World Cup for the first time in their history. The remaining five spots will be decided through regional qualifiers, with two teams set to qualify from the Africa region and three more from the Asia and East Asia Pacific qualifiers.

The T20 World Cup will come during a particularly congested period in the Indian cricket calendar. Just before the global tournament, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is expected to be held from early January to early February. Once the World Cup concludes in March, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is slated to begin around March 15 and run until May 31.
This means Indian fans can look forward to nearly five continuous months of top-tier cricket. In addition to these marquee tournaments, India is also scheduled to host New Zealand for a limited-overs series between January 11 and January 31, adding even more action to an already jam-packed season.
As preparations continue, the cricketing world awaits official confirmation of the full schedule and final venue for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Regardless of the final details, the tournament promises to be a major highlight in the global sporting calendar.
