Reportedly, the T20 World Cup will adjust playing conditions for the semifinals, allocating extra time for the second one to ensure a same-day finish.

According to reports, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) might announce significant changes to the playing conditions for the upcoming T20 World Cup semifinals.

According to Cricbuzz report, to avoid a situation where the winner of the second semifinal has to play the final the very next day, an additional 250 minutes (over four hours) have been allocated to the match scheduled for June 27th in Guyana. This extended timeframe ensures the game finishes on the same day, even if there are minor interruptions.

The first semifinal, taking place on June 26th in Trinidad, has a reserved day built into the schedule in case of rain. However, the second semifinal in Guyana has a stricter deadline. It starts earlier in the day at 10.30 AM local time (8.30 PM India time) and must conclude on June 27th. The additional time allotment gives the umpires more flexibility to wait for rain delays to clear and complete the match within a single day.

If the second semi-final gets rained out completely, the team that finished higher in the group stage advances to the final. In case of a tie in the semi-finals, a Super Over will decide the winner.

This decision aims to create a fair playing field for all teams. Organizers want to avoid a scenario where one team has to play two high-pressure matches on consecutive days, giving the other team a potential advantage.

“The decision was taken to allocate the additional time for the second semi-final immediately post the game because the game is a 10.30 AM start, whilst the first semi-final is an evening start, which means it is not feasible to pay all additional time on the same day. This also ensures that fans in the stadium have the best chance of seeing a result on the day,” a source explained to Cricbuzz.

In the unlikely event of a full day’s rainout in Guyana, the team that finished higher in the Super Eight stage will advance to the final, according to the revised playing conditions.
