MI skipper Hardik Pandya shared his honest thoughts about MS Dhoni’s role in CSK’s win and what went wrong with the chase.
After Mumbai Indians’ loss to Chennai Super Kings on April 14th’s IPL match, captain Hardik Pandya shared that CSK’s win should be largely credited to MS Dhoni. Pandya acknowledged MS Dhoni’s leadership and strategic thinking, praising his ability to guide his players throughout the match. However, he also commended the entire Chennai Super Kings team for their well-deserved victory.
In a post-match interview, Pandya told the press, “It (the target) was definitely gettable, but they bowled pretty well. Pathirana was the difference. They were smart with their plans and their approach. They got the hang of it; there’s a man behind the stumps (Dhoni) who tells them what’s working; that helps,” as quoted by the Times of India.

Besides appreciating Dhoni’s guidance, the MI skipper also appreciated the young Matheesha Pathirana’s contribution with the ball that halted MI’s run chase. “It (pitch) was holding up a bit and getting difficult. It was about batting well and keeping the intent. We were going quite well (in the run chase) till Pathirana came into the attack and took those two wickets,” remarked Pandya.
Recently, there have been questions regarding Hardik Pandya hiding an injury as his performances were sub-par; however, the MI skipper did not show any intent of going under recovery. Rather, he seemed enthusiastic about the next few games Mumbai will be playing. “We are on the road for the next four games; we need to play good cricket; we need to keep the intensity high,” Hardik told the reporters.
As of the next match, the Mumbai Indians will be facing the Punjab Kings on April 18th at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
