Mumbai Skipper Ajinkya Rahane expressed excitement over Shreyas Iyer’s return to the squad, confident in his ability to perform well in the Ranji Trophy semifinal against Tamil Nadu.
Mumbai’s captain, Ajinkya Rahane, expressed his confidence in Shreyas Iyer’s ability to overcome the recent contractual issues and deliver a strong performance in the Ranji Trophy semifinal against Tamil Nadu. Despite Shreyas and Ishan Kishan missing out on annual central contracts for skipping Ranji matches, Rahane highlighted Shreyas’s experience and past contributions to the team.
Rahane emphasized that Shreyas’s presence in the squad for the semifinal was a source of excitement for the team. Additionally, Rahane stated that Shreyas, being an experienced player, would not need any extra motivation to perform well against Tamil Nadu.
“He’s an experienced player. His contribution has been amazing whenever he turned up for Mumbai. We are thrilled to have him in our team for the semifinal,” Rahane told the media.
“I don’t think he needs any encouragement or advice. He has always contributed with the bat for Mumbai, and him being around other players in the dressing room will also help the team’s cause,” he added.
Rahane, despite facing a personal struggle with his batting form, remains unfazed by his recent performance, acknowledging it as a temporary phase. He believes in staying positive, backing his instincts, and focusing on batting freely to regain his rhythm.
Rahane also confirmed that opener Prithvi Shaw has recovered from a finger injury that led him to bat in the middle-order during the quarterfinal. Despite the adjustment, he expressed hope that Shaw would bring his aggressive gameplay against Tamil Nadu, given his impressive track record.
