Travis Head believes an India-Australia final in the T20 World Cup 2024 would be exciting, anticipating that India may seek revenge for Australia’s recent victories in the ICC finals.

Australian opener Travis Head recently shared his thoughts on the intense India-Australia rivalry, suggesting that India will be eager for revenge if the two teams face off in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final. After Australia’s victories over India in the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup finals last year, Head believes an India-Australia title decider would be a thrilling match. The rivalry between these two teams has grown significantly in recent years, with India having a better T20 World Cup record against Australia, winning three out of their five matches.

Despite this, Head feels that Australia’s recent successes in ICC tournaments have left Indian fans wanting revenge. Head remarked that such a match would be highly exciting for cricket fans, especially in India, given the history of the recent finals.

“It would be nice. It would be nice to be in the final. I think everyone in India would love that, especially considering what’s happened in the last two finals. So, I’m sure India wants some revenge at some point. There would be good theater around it if that were the case. Let’s hope that we’re in it, and let’s hope you’re in it, and we’ll see what happens,” Head told the Times of India.

Head has been a key figure in Australia’s recent victories over India, scoring match-winning centuries in the ICC finals. However, he acknowledged the threat posed by India’s star-studded lineup, led by Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah, all of whom are coming off strong IPL campaigns.

Furthermore, regarding Rohit Sharma’s leadership, Head expressed confidence, stating that Rohit has been an outstanding leader and player, and should not face any significant pressure going into the 30-day tournament.

“India is in good hands. I think you could probably name four or five teams that are going to be in the mix. Playing an attacking brand of cricket is crucial for them. With Rohit and Virat, and their exceptional bowling led by star bowler Bumrah, who has also been outstanding in the IPL, their chances are high. Their chances are probably similar to the three or four other teams that are in contention,” he said.

“I don’t think Rohit has too much to worry about. He’s been an exceptional leader for a period of time and is an exceptional player as well. So, I don’t think there’s any issue from that side of things,” Head concluded.
