Kamran Akmal has recently sparked a frenzy on social media that centred around the comparison between Umar Akmal and Virat Kohli.
Former Pakistani wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal has stirred controversy on social media with his comments comparing Virat Kohli’s T20 World Cup record to his younger brother Umar Akmal’s.
Akmal, who himself has faced criticism for his past involvement in spot-fixing allegations, claimed that Umar, despite being out of the national team for over five years, boasts superior statistics in the T20 World Cup compared to the Indian batting legend.
“Mujhe stats kal aaye hain. Mein baat kar raha hu Umar ki. I just saw the stats yesterday, and I’m talking about Umar (Akmal). In T20 World Cup matches, sure, Umar might be like Virat Kohli’s little finger when you consider his overall stature and achievements. But Umar has a better strike rate and has scored more runs (in T20 World Cups) than Virat Kohli,” Akmal said on ARY News.

Akmal further suggested that, unlike Kohli, Umar does not have a public relations team promoting his achievements. “We don’t have a PR company. We don’t spread our stats on social media. Imagine if these stats (of Umar) were for one of the current players (in the Pakistan squad), it would have created a storm,” he added, referencing Kohli’s impressive record of 80 international centuries.
It’s important to note that Kohli remains the leading run-scorer in T20 World Cup history and holds numerous records in the format. Umar Akmal, on the other hand, last played for Pakistan in October 2019 and has been out of favour with selectors.
Akmal recently grabbed headlines on social media by showcasing his physique, seemingly responding to critics who questioned his fitness. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign ended abruptly on Friday, as they were eliminated even before playing their final group match against Ireland. The USA and India progressed to the Super Eight stage from Pakistan’s group.
