Umesh Yadav remains hopeful for Gujarat Titans’ playoff chances, citing skipper Shubman Gill’s belief in team miracles after a recent victory broke their losing streak.
Gujarat Titans’ pacer Umesh Yadav expressed his team’s hope for a playoff spot in the 2024 IPL, despite a tough season following their 2022 win and last year’s runner-up position. With just 10 points in 12 matches, they need to win their remaining two games and rely on other results. Their recent victory against Chennai Super Kings boosted morale, featuring stellar performances from captain Shubman Gill and opener B Sai Sudharsan.
Yadav highlighted the importance of playing their best and aiming for convincing wins to improve their standings. Despite facing Kolkata Knight Riders, who have already secured a playoff berth, the team remains optimistic, believing in the potential for unexpected turnarounds.
“Definitely, there are a lot of possibilities. The plan is to play our game and try and win both the (remaining) games. If we try to win by a good margin… even Gill says he has seen miracles happening with this team. We are trying our best,” Yadav told the media.
“If there are any ups and downs for the top-placed teams and we get to 14 points then… Everyone wants to be there (in the playoffs). In the last two years, we won one final and were the runner-up in the other, so we are trying to grab our chances,” he added.

Umesh also voiced concerns about the impact player rule, noting its added challenge for bowlers. He emphasized that with deep batting lineups, batters aren’t as worried about getting out early. Additionally, the dominance of six-hitting has shifted the game towards aggressive batting.
In the previous match between the two teams, Rinku Singh’s remarkable five consecutive sixes sealed a stunning win for KKR. Although Gujarat Titans lead in head-to-head wins, KKR has been a standout team this season. With both teams eyeing playoff spots, the Titans need favorable results elsewhere to boost their chances, while KKR will aim to secure two more points for a higher finish.
