Umran Malik expressed eagerness to perform well in the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2024 after recovering from dengue.
Young Indian pacer Umran Malik is eager to make a strong impact in the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2024 after recovering from dengue. The tournament is set to commence on September 5, with matches scheduled in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, and at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Four teams – Team A, Team B, Team C, and Team D – will compete in this historic red-ball competition.
Malik has been selected for Team C, which will be captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad. The team also features notable players like India T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav, Sai Sudharsan, and Rajat Patidar. Speaking about his preparation, the 24-year-old speedster expressed his readiness to perform well in the domestic tournament.
“I am feeling better, and now I am fully focused on the preparation of the Duleep Trophy at the NCA. I hope to do well this season for my team,” Malik told India Today. Umran Malik made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in 2021 but only featured in three games. Despite limited opportunities, his ability to consistently bowl at speeds exceeding 150 kph caught everyone’s attention.

In the 2022 IPL season, Malik showcased his potential by playing in 14 matches and taking 22 wickets at an impressive average of 20.18. His performances earned him a spot in the Indian T20I squad for the Ireland tour in 2022, and he later made his ODI debut against New Zealand.
So far, Malik has taken 13 wickets in 10 ODIs at an average of 30.69 and has claimed 11 wickets in eight T20Is at an average of 22.09. However, his last appearance for India was in July 2023, as his form dipped significantly. In the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season, he managed to take only four wickets from five matches at an average of 38.50 while representing Jammu & Kashmir.
