At the ICC Annual Conference, it was announced that a review committee, led by directors Roger Twose, Lawson Naidoo, and Imran Khwaja, will examine the execution of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 by USA Cricket.

The ICC’s four-day annual conference concluded with key developments, including the decision to review the delivery of the T20 World Cup 2024. This review will be overseen by directors Roger Twose, Lawson Naidoo, and Imran Khwaja, with a report expected later this year. Although details were scarce, the review is set to focus on budget oversights and particularly the USA leg of the event. Additionally, Pankaj Khimji, who lost the Associate Member Directors election, had previously requested a detailed investigation into expenses.

“The ICC Board confirmed that there will be a review into the delivery of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. This will be overseen by three directors, Roger Twose, Lawson Naidoo and Imran Khwaja who will report back to the Board later in the year,” ICC said in a media statement.

In other news, USA Cricket and Cricket Chile have been officially put on notice for failing to meet ICC Membership Criteria. Both organizations have 12 months to address their governance and administrative shortcomings. Continued non-compliance could lead to suspension or expulsion, with the ICC Board reserving the right to take further action if necessary.

“USA Cricket and Cricket Chile have been formally put on notice and have 12 months to rectify their current non-compliance with the ICC Membership Criteria. Neither Member is considered to have in place a fit-for-purpose detailed governance and administrative structure and systems. The Board agreed that a Normalisation Committee comprising of Board and Management representatives will be set up to oversee and monitor USA Cricket’s compliance roadmap and the ICC Board will reserve its right to suspend or expel the Member for continued non-compliance,” the statement added.

USA faces a tough road ahead after three of its directors, Kuljit Singh, Arjun Gona and Patricia Whittaker detailed serious issues in a ten-page letter to the ICC. The document, titled “USAC Board Governance and Ethical Failures,” criticized the unethical termination of CEO Dr. Noor Murad and highlighted issues such as a lack of transparency and obstruction of a national T20 plan developed by Murad.

The ICC has responded by giving USA Cricket 12 months to address these concerns and improve its governance and administration.
