Michael Vaughan praised Jasprit Bumrah for his sensational bowling throughout the T20 World Cup.
Jasprit Bumrah emerged as a hero for India, claiming the Player of the Series award in their victorious T20 World Cup campaign. His consistent bowling performances throughout the tournament proved instrumental in India’s second T20 World Cup title win.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan was particularly impressed by Bumrah’s skills, comparing him to the legendary Wasim Akram. “He’s obviously a great bowler who plans to bowl against all the different batters, but you still have to have the skill sets and you’ve got to know when to bowl which delivery. If you can tell me a better seam bowler. And he does it under pressure day in and day out. It’s not just two or three times at the World Cup, it’s pretty much every single game,” Vaughan said as quoted by Wisden.
Vaughan went even further, claiming Bumrah might be the best seam bowler ever in white-ball cricket. “I honestly think he’s the best seam bowler who has played white-ball cricket,” Vaughan declared. He highlighted Bumrah’s unplayable delivery to dismiss Reeza Hendricks in the powerplay and his ability to adapt his bowling based on the batter’s approach. Bumrah’s slower ball was also lauded by Vaughan, further solidifying his claim as a bowling genius.

Bumrah consistently stepped up when India needed him the most, providing crucial breakthroughs at critical moments. He finished the tournament with the most impressive economy rate of any bowler – a remarkable 4.17 – conceding just over four runs per over. This stat is even more impressive considering he also picked up a staggering 15 wickets at an average of just 8.26 runs per wicket.
One of Bumrah’s most impactful performances came in the final against South Africa. With the Proteas seemingly on their way to victory, Bumrah delivered a superb spell, taking two wickets and giving away only 18 runs in his four overs. In the final five overs, when South Africa desperately needed quick runs, Bumrah’s tight bowling restricted them to just one and six runs respectively in his two overs.
