Sunrisers Hyderabad has selected Vijaykanth Viyaskanth as the replacement for injured legspinner Wanindu Hasaranga for IPL 2024, following confirmation from Sri Lanka Cricket to BCCI.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has brought Sri Lankan leg-spinner Vijayakanth Viyaskanth on board as a replacement for the injured Wanindu Hasaranga for the remainder of IPL 2024. Hasaranga, who was set to debut for SRH this season after being purchased for Rs 1.5 crore, faced disappointment due to a chronic foot injury.
Previously, he had a noteworthy stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore, securing 26 wickets in his debut season in 2022. Despite his initial success, he played a limited role in the following year before being released.
Vijayakanth has been added to the squad at his base price of Rs 50 lakh, with the 22-year-old having played a solitary T20I for his country and featured in the Asian Games. Having taken 42 wickets in 33 T20 matches at an economy of 6.76, Vijayakanth brings promising bowling prowess to SRH.
Meanwhile, SRH’s IPL 2024 campaign began with a narrow loss to Kolkata Knight Riders but rebounded with a remarkable batting performance against Mumbai Indians. SRH also set a new IPL record with a staggering 277/3 against MI, securing a 31-run victory.
Despite a setback against Gujarat Titans, they rebounded strongly by defeating Chennai Super Kings. Now, led by Pat Cummins, they gear up to face Punjab Kings in their upcoming match.
