RCB captain Faf du Plessis shared his thoughts about making a strong partnership with Virat Kohli ahead of IPL 2024.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis expressed his excitement about reuniting with star batter Virat Kohli for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Kohli will return to the field after a two-and-a-half-month break.
While speaking to Star Sports, Du Plessis discussed his strong connection with Kohli, highlighting their shared passion for fitness and dedication to the game.
“There are quite a few things that Virat and I are very similar in,” Faf said. “We have a similar way of seeing the game and think about the game, but also in how we look at ourselves and how we want to be. Obviously athletic, train hard, be fit, eat well. So, we look at a holistic approach to being a professional sportsman and I think that’s why we connected so well in my first season at RCB.”
Du Plessis praised Kohli’s commitment to fitness, calling him an inspiration for younger players, “He’s amazing, he trains hard, he’s very fit, and I feel like in today’s age of sport you have to be like that if you’re looking for longevity. So he will be a great example for the younger generation that maybe feel like they can just come in and rely on their talent. Yes, talent is important, but to have a long career, taking care of your body is crucial.”
Further, Faf echoed the sentiments of Virat Kohli’s fans, “He’s coming back after a long break, and the way Virat is, he’s always hungry for cricket…he’s going to come back with double the hunger. I hope he gets back to that kind of form (2016) in the IPL. The IPL is a long season and to continue that form is to be superhuman. And that season, the way he was batting, it was surreal to watch on the side-lines.”
RCB finished the last season in sixth place under du Plessis’ leadership. The team has strengthened their squad for the upcoming season by adding the in-form Australian all-rounder Cameron Green. With Kohli’s return and a strong squad, RCB aims to set the bar higher. The team will play their first match against Chennai Super Kings on March 22nd.
