Virat Kohli’s heartfelt reflection

Virat Kohli in tears

Virat Kohli shared an emotional message as he reflected on the June 4 RCB victory parade stampede that claimed 11 lives and left over 50 injured.

Virat Kohli has opened up about the tragic stampede that marred Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) victory parade in Bengaluru on June 4, 2025. Nearly three months after the horrific incident, the former RCB captain shared an emotional note on social media, calling the loss of fans a permanent part of the franchise’s story.

“Nothing in life really prepares you for a heartbreak like June 4th. What should’ve been the happiest moment in our franchise’s history… turned into something tragic. I’ve been thinking of and praying for the families of those we lost… and for our fans who were injured. Your loss is part of our story now. Together, we will move forward with care, respect and responsibility,” Kohli said in a message shared by RCB on X.

For a player known to let his bat do most of the talking, this was Kohli speaking straight from the heart. The stampede unfolded during RCB’s grand celebration at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, a day after their maiden IPL title win against Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad. What was planned as a carnival for the fans turned into chaos when over 3–5 lakh supporters poured in without adequate security arrangements. The crowd crush left 11 people dead and injured more than 50, casting a dark shadow over the franchise’s historic triumph.

RCB later announced a relief package, granting ₹25 lakh to each victim’s family, while acknowledging the pain caused by the tragedy. The legal fallout from the incident is still ongoing. Both the Karnataka government and the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) have stated that RCB was prima facie responsible, citing the absence of police clearance for the massive gathering.

While the scars of that day remain deep, Kohli’s words and RCB’s new initiative, RCB Cares, aim to provide support and help fans, families, and the franchise slowly heal and move forward.
