Virat Kohli recently discussed his post-retirement plans, hinting at a long break and prioritizing performing well in the remainder of the IPL season.
Indian cricket veteran Virat Kohli has shed light on his post-retirement plans, revealing a desire for a significant break after hanging up his boots. The 35-year-old batting maestro recently spoke at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) Gala Dinner.
“I think as a sportsman, we do have an end-date to our careers. So I am just working backwards. I don’t want to finish my career thinking ‘oh, what if I have done this on that particular day’ because I can’t keep going on and on forever. So it’s just about not leaving any undone business behind and not have any regrets later, which I am sure I won’t,” said Kohli, as quoted by NDTV.
Kohli emphasized his commitment to giving his all until retirement. “Once I am done, I will be gone, you won’t see me for a while (smiles). So I want to give it everything I have till the time I play, and that’s the only thing that keeps me going,” added Kohli.
This dedication is evident in Kohli’s current IPL season. He leads the tournament in run-scoring with a staggering 661 runs in 13 innings at an impressive average of 66.10 and a strike rate of 155.16.
However, his team, RCB, currently sits in fifth place with 12 points, needing a win in their upcoming match against CSK to stay alive in the playoff race. This crucial clash is unfortunately under threat of being washed out due to a five-day rain forecast in Bengaluru.
A washout would result in both teams receiving a point each. While this would not affect CSK’s qualification for the playoffs, it would eliminate RCB from contention.
